This assignment meets CACREP 2009 standard:
A1; CACREP 2016 standard: SC.1a.
In your first discussion in Unit 1, you
presented key historical events and considered the ways in which they shaped
the profession of school counseling today. For this assignment, you will write
a short paper that considers a single, specific event involving national
policy, societal concerns, or safety issues that have occurred within the past
five years. For example, while cyberbulllying is an emerging, evolving issue
school counselors address, it would be too broad for this assignment. Instead,
you would want to identify a specific incident or event in which cyberbullying
directly impacted a school or student.
In this paper you must clearly articulate the
following:
- Describe the event in detail and specifically address
how you see that event shaping the discussion of school counseling
learners 10 years from now.
- Analyze the ways in which the event will impact the
practices of the school counseling profession (such as populations with
which we work, emphasis of our work, opportunities for collaboration and
consultation, et cetera).
- Support your position with relevant examples.
Review the Current Events Impact the School
Counseling Profession Scoring Guide before submitting your paper to ensure you
have met all the requirements of the assignment.
